Mom's Freedom Day

Dear Mom, Supermom,

This gibberish was written sometime in July. However, I've updated it to accommodate, or at least acknowledge, the current circumstances. Everything happening right now, and what you'll see after this, may seem a bit too extra to you, considering our mutual nature of doing things the unconventional way. But like Kendrick Lamar said, "sometimes you gotta pop out and show niggas". And right now is your time to pop out and shine (You shine every day anyways) so enjoy every bit of it.

Today, I am the most proud person after your daddy and your mommy, God bless her soul. It's only out of sheer respect that I put my own pride after theirs, because heck, I'm the proudest and happiest person in the world right now. I've looked forward to this day every day since May. The video I sent you on WhatsApp? I'd had it stored since May, waiting so much, ran out of patience at some point. That's how much I've looked forward to this day.

There have been beautiful moments in all of this. First of all, I'm proud of you. I'm glad you didn't listen to me, that you didn't drop out and finished it. Big ups to you, and thank God, I'm excited we can do crime now. I Remember when your project started, it was all chaos, and every time on the phone we went over whether you should drop out or whether you shouldn't have taken this path at all. Remember the night you started questioning why you even chose to study law. Beautiful, ridiculous moments. All of these moments are the flavor of it. I enjoyed every bit of watching you go through school. The sudden quizzes. The phone calls while you walked from your lodge to class every morning, and the phone call walking back from class. The period during your last semesters exam you were going to night class and I always predicted you'll fall asleep, and you'll call me the morning and say "fuck you, I didn't sleep" (you did end up sleeping some nights anyway) The times you fell asleep on the call at night, which I'm yet to understand, why does my voice put you to sleep anyways? Those moments, beautiful, all of them. I cherished every bit.

The beginning of the year was a very rough one for me. I was in a very dark place mentally, and we collided for the second time. Yes, the second time. I did go incognito after the first collision, and you can spank me for that. But we collided again, and it was the most beautiful thing. I felt alive, from Awukzu to Onitsha and to Enugu again. Somehow you resurrected the dead Enugu that was inside me, and I saw the light, thanks to you.

From Awukzu, Onitsha, the time we spent in our garden, back to Holy Cross, and the event that happened on the step, I choose not to disclose the details, because I know you won't always be reading this alone. But you know. The moments at the hospital. The video we shot for the Energy Law Society, and when you had to learn how to use Google's NotebookLM, and when you eventually shot the video they didn't need anymore. When the glass cut your leg and you had to bind it with masking tape, that we learned the difference between masking tape and sellotape. I remember vividly how you were limping. You limped to where we checked for your piercing. I can't remember if we limped to the market to buy soya milk. Those were beautiful moments. I loved every bit of them.

And then Enugu, which has to be the most beautiful time of my life this year, quite literally. That was when something shifted in me, and I knew this was something. I enjoyed watching you do school activity. At some point I felt like a proud father, following you to school, carrying your pink bag, following you to class. It's unfortunate I never made it to any class. I blame you for that anyways, I blame you. Do you remember the day I dressed up completely for class, abd was giving you a speech?, and the class eventually got cancelled. Regardless, I enjoyed every one of those moments. I loved watching you work on your laptop, study, go study with your friends, all of it. I felt proud. I felt happy. I enjoyed seeing you do those things, even though I brought all the play and foolishness. But deep down, I felt really proud of you.

And today, today, it's all over. The whole journey, all of it, it's over. You won. Like I said, I'm the happiest person. I mean, I don't know how you thought this was going to be a normal day in your life. Fuck no. It's your fucking time to shine. You did it. Am I fucking proud of you!! right now I'm gonna do all types of crime you can imagine.

Back in Enugu, you fell asleep before me every night, and it was in those nights that I discovered, hey, this was no longer "to define is to limit", infact, it was limitless. I saw depth. You showed me a depth in me that I didn't even know existed, and that depth I am going to show you tonight. Most the nights if not all, you fell asleep and I stayed up, I couldn't do anything, because you'd wrap yourself around me and I'd be stuck. I love that anyways. I'd be stuck and I'd look at you, cute mom, and in those moments I felt like a father looking at his girl, and I felt like a son at the same time, lmaoo. It felt so peaceful, so loving, everything was still, All my worries died, all our worries died, nothing mattered to us. Those were the nights I knew you were my person. And every other silly thing we did, for the sake of whoever will be reading this with you, I can't exactly describe it, but you know every detail of it. That was life.

And today, again, I say for the number of times I can't count, I am very happy. I feel very fulfilled. This is exactly a dream come true, and even though it didn't turn out exactly the way I expected or hoped, I remain very proud, very happy.

Right now, It's unfortunate that things aren't the best for us. In fact, let me not sugarcoat it: it's unfortunate that we have to be on the edge at the moment. Sad. I Remember one of our conversations when I was in Enugu, the night we said we should never, God forbid, get to a point where we start asking, how did we get here, what went wrong, where did we get it wrong? But this is life, and unfortunately we find ourselves here. I don't want to make this whole thing about our current circumstance, but it's your celebration period and we happen to be in this situation, so this is my chance to tell you that, fuck me, I'm here, and screw me for all my contributions to where we are at the moment.

This is me putting all my cards on the table. The happiness I feel right now is not something I ever wanted to be short-lived. Nah. I still want you wrapped around me at night so I can't move, and look at how cute you are. I still want to look at our Snapchat wallpaper and have it be more than a memory I can't reach into anymore. And I do not want you to become one of my mini letting-goes.

So tonight I celebrate your freedom from the prisons of university. And tonight I hope this also becomes a new beginning for us. Sometime in June, when you found out the full story about Maryann, you told me you didn't know how to feel learning that I loved someone this way, and that you didn't even know exactly how I feel about you. I never got to answer that question absolutely. Well, tonight I'm going to give you an absolute answer. Not just an answer, I'm going to show you how deep this depth runs. So if you want to find out, click the button below and see.

Happy Freedom Day, Supermom. And remember: do crime, don't fight crime. Those who fight crime do not win. Welcome to unemployment, Mom. I love you.

Your favorite, nah,
The only retard you know.
